History of Friends of Quetico Park
When and Why it started:
The Friends of Quetico Park is a charitable, non-profit organization which was formed in 1984 to: assist in the preservation of Quetico as a wilderness region, produce publications about Quetico, and support programs and activities which help in scientific or cultural research and in education the public. All proceeds from the sales of our merchandise are directed towards theses goals.
Past Accomplishments:
For many years since the existence of the Friends of Quetico Park, we have sponsored summer students for assistance with Quetico Parks summer programs. By assisting with wages and supplies for programs such as the Natural Heritage Program, an educational program run for youth that visit Dawson Trail Campground, we have helped educate Canada’s youth about the beauty and cultural wonders of our park.. Also, we have assisted the John B. Ridley Library with receiving numerous students over the years to play a part in the library services. We have also purchased books and shelving units for the library to broaden its collection, and it’s appeal to all visitors to the Dawson Trail Pavilion.
Some of the publications that we have published:
An Illustrated History of Quetico Provincial Park
Plants of Quetico and the Ontario Shield
The Birds of Quetico Provincial Park and the Atikokan Area

The Future:
The Friends of Quetico Park is currently working on a one hour film geared towards young urbanites and new Canadians, to inspire their love of the wilderness. We hope that it will be completed in the new year, and aired on television and available for classroom use.
We welcome your membership, with which you will receive a biannual newsletter, and a 10% discount at our shops, at the park entry stations, and through mail order. If you are interested in making a donation, all amounts are gratefully appreciated.
