Quetico 2006 Camping Season

The lakes may still be frozen, but it's time to get your camping gear ready for another great season of paddling. We have ski trails at Dawson Trail Campground. Quetico is open year round. During the non-operating season, there are self-serve boxes at each of the 6 entry stations, for people to pay for their camping. In 2006 Quetico's operating season is from May 19, 2006 to September 17, 2006. Call (807) 597-2735 for more information on our Winter Camping opportunities in Quetico Park.
Quetico in Winter

Have you ever wished you could have Quetico entirely to yourself? Imagine spending a day traveling through fresh snow, the only other tracks you see are those of moose, lynx, and hare…

Winter is the ideal time to experience the solitude and serenity of Quetico. Whether you’re planning a trip across the park or a weekend getaway at Dawson Trail Campground, Quetico offers superb opportunities for winter adventure. Take the time to ski on over 25km of groomed ski trails at French Lake or make your own trail as you travel along the frozen canoe routes of the park’s interior.

At the end of your adventure warm up in the Log Cabin at French Lake.

Comfort in Quetico's Yurts

Quetico Yurt - Photo Barb Rees
Experience Quetico’s winters from the warmth and comfort of a yurt. Based on Mongolian tents of the same name, yurts are round, 16’ wide tent-like structures with a wooden floor. Insulated and with electric heat, yurts are a cosy place to curl up after a day of skiing or snowshoeing.

Your rental includes:
Yurt furnished with table, chairs, and two bunks – each with a twin and double bed to sleep six, electric heat and lights, fire pit, picnic table, barbeque and propane.

All you need to bring are your personal belongings, sleeping bags or bedding and pillows, food, cooler, cook-stove, and other gear. In the winter you will have to bring your own drinking water. Please note that cooking and smoking inside the yurts is prohibited.

Located in the Chippewa Campground at Dawson Trail, you can rent one of Quetico’s two yurts any time of the year. Rental rates are $70.00 per night, plus a $100.00 deposit. Call Quetico Park at 1-807-597-2735 for information on where to pick up your permit and keys, road conditions in the campground, etc. just before you travel to come to the park. Call 1-888-ONT-PARK for reservations.
